from the artistic director:
William Addis

Friends,

2009 marks the tenth season of Bakerloo Theatre Project producing classical works in the Capital region. First as Compass Rose Theatre Company in Round Lake, NY and subsequently in Troy since 2004, Bakerloo has carved out a distinct place in the region's arts community by producing high quality low cost innovative productions of the greatest plays in the canon. The scope of Bakerloo's artistic family is large; nearly 100 actors, designers, directors, dramaturgs and stage managers have participated in our summer residency.

To celebrate our tenth season, Bakerloo is putting together one of our most exciting seasons yet-- focusing on our favorite playwright, William Shakespeare. First, we will present a world premiere adaptation of Hamlet, created by award winning playwright Adam Mathias (See Rock City and Other Destinations, The Passion of George W. Bush). The Hamlet Project is a thrilling examination of perhaps the finest play in the English language through the unique lens of a 21st century theatre maker. Each role is shared by an impressive cast of just four actors, including Bakerloo favorites Sarah Murphy and Gwyn Hervochon, who have appeared in all of Bakerloo's thirteen previous productions in the region.

Presented in repertory with The Hamlet Project, Much Ado about Nothing will appear on the Bakerloo stage for the second time, the first in 2001. Shakespeare's famed battle of the sexes is a joyous celebration of the irresistible draw of the call of love. The production will star Marsha Harman, who earned raves last season as Madame Raneveskaya in Cherry Orchard, as Beatrice.

In addition to these productions, we will be returning with our audience talks, pub nights, and the Fourth Annual Shakespeare in the Pork, plus additional special events and celebration in honor of our tenth season. Meanwhile, if you are in NYC you can continue to join Bakerloo on our weekly Saturday pub crawl or come see our upcoming performance of Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters (at The New York Society Library on March 26th; additional dates to follow).

Thank you to everyone who has been part of the past nine years. I look forward to meeting with you in July in Troy for a tenth season of great theatre in a great city.

-William
